Eternal Fluorescent Lighting (EEFL)

Eternal Fluorescent Lighting or EFL is one of the latest technologies used in lighting sources today. This patented technology is the type of fluorescent lamp which differs from the conventional bulbs because it does no use the likes of filaments, electrodes or cathodes.

As it does not have electrodes, light is produced by EFL by using gas discharge and electromagnetic induced and that is where, as the name implies, gives the lifespan of this lighting much longer than any other types. In fact, EFLs is known to last up to 120,000 hours which means that it is almost equivalent to 5 conventional fluorescent lamps or 100 incandescent lamps.

EFL is actually not an entirely new technology as it was first introduced back in the 1800s by Nicola Tesla. However, it is only in recent years that this technology has become a lot more popular than before as the demand for longer running lights and more affordable options increases.

How it works?

EFL lights react with the phosphor used to coat the tube in order to produce light. This is similar with the method of conventional fluorescent lights which degrades with time as it uses electrodes. On the other hand, EFL do not use electrodes. In this context, EFL uses magnetic field to transmit the energy instead of electrodes, giving it a longer lifespan in general. When the electromagnetic field is created, it activates the mercury atoms in order to produce UV photons that will result in the white light.

The time lapse is the same for similar tubes and could be very evident when used separately. On the other hand, when used collectively, the effects might not be as significant.

In most cases, lighting tubes and bulbs are defined and marketed through various measurement units. All these factors must be considered before they are installed as they all play important respective roles to ensure the best lighting options. This factor can sometimes be not as significant when there are several tubes installed together as they will all illuminate at different times.

Time lapse is one of the areas that must be strongly considered as the faster the time taken to fully illuminate the tube, the quicker the lighting up of the space will be. In cases where the LED tubes are used for rooms and large spaces, the time taken to brighten up the space might not be as significant while it will be a lot more prominent when the LEDs are used for interior design purposes like signs, wall washers as well as spot and projection lights.

The Time Lapse in the LED is measured in Seconds in which they will define the eventual lighting outcome of the device. LED Source

This means that using more RGB bulbs will allow the particular LED devices to produce more colors and surely more variations of a specific hue which means that the device can be used in larger screens and display panels.

LED source is commonly used to depict how rich the colors of a specific LED device will be. This type of specification is commonly depicted in terms of R, G and B. They are used in most LED modules while there are some which are installed onto LED strips that can produce many color combinations.

The LED Source information comes in many forms which defines the number of bulbs available in a specific module. At R4, G4, B4, it means that each unit is made up of 4 red bulbs, 4 green and 4 blue bulbs respectively.

The intensity of a specific color depends fully on how many bulbs are equipped into each unit. There are certain LED modules which come with larger components in which they are depicted at R12, G 12 and B12. This is popularly used in larger LED components and those that are intended for larger spaces for display. In this context, it must be noted that the figure 12 depicts that there are 12 Red, Green and Blue bulbs respectively which means that this particular module will be able to produce richer colors and in more variations than those that have lesser colored bulbs.

CRI (Color Rending Index)

CRI is a very common term used in LED lighting. It refers to the Color Rending Index of a certain bulb. This is among the many types of measuring units that are commonly used in the many types of lighting devices available in the market today.

In LED lighting, the CRI is used where it is the quantitative measure of how well the device is able to reproduce the colors of a specific object as compared to the perfect light source. To understand CRI, the ideal light source must be understood. This is a direct reference to the best and most natural ideal light source which is that which comes from the sun.

The sun produces the CRI of 100. When the light source from the sun is at its optimum, the human eye will perceive the best color combination of any object it sees. The CRI of any lighting device will then be used to compare on how well they stack up against each other which means that the closer they are to 100, the better the illumination will be.

Each LED bulb or tube will produce a certain CRI where the closer they are to 100, the better the clarity it will be. This means that for a typical T8 LED tube that has a 75 CRI, it is able to produce up to 75% the best possible color rendering of the object as compared to those seen under the perfect sunlight.

In comparison, LED lights are able to offer much higher CRI as compared to traditional incandescent lights. This is the main reason why LEDs are commonly perceived as the ideal replacement for conventional lighting. However, most LEDs in the market currently do not have CRI of more than 90 but that is sufficient to produce better lighting and clearer lights for the surrounding areas than the traditional options.

Luminous

When it comes to lighting, the luminosity plays an important role. Luminous power is often referred to as luminous flux and it is where one measures the perceived power of light of a certain device. Each lighting device will project a certain level of luminous flux which will affect how the human eye see the lighted areas or surface.

In LED, luminosity is very important as it will define how much light is being projected and the brightness that it produces. As with all other types of elements in standard lighting, there is a specific way of reading luminosity and this is measured through as lumen or lm. lm is the standard unit (SI) used in this industry.

In this context, one must understand the concept of one candela (which comes from the word candle). 1 lm (one lumen) basically refers to the amount of light that emits one candela of intensity. This is taken through a solid angle with consistent flare. This means that the higher the lumens (lms), the brighter the source will be. Here, 1 lm refers to about the source of 1 candle light which means that if a device emits 100lms, it represents the metaphor of 100 candle lights.

In LED, the same measurement is used. When a module provides a Luminous scale of > 500lms, it means that it is able to emit more than 500 lumens. This could go to as high as 2000 lms which are commonly used for larger screens and lighting devices.

LED Sensing Distance

The Sensing Distance of a LED module refers to the device which detects the surrounding and other external factors of the module. This is an important feature of the LED module because it will be activated to ensure better energy efficiency and where necessary ensure that no energy wastage happens.

This feature is actually invoked by a sensor which is usually attached to a LED bulb or a tube. It usually uses Infrared technology to scan its surroundings before changing the lighting or intensity of the light. In most cases, the LED light is programmed to emit lesser light if the surroundings are bright enough. This will allow the premise owner to save on electricity bills and overheads as lesser energy is used.

The term Sensing Distance refers to the 2 points between the sensor and the maximum outreach that the sensor can scan. Hence, it uses a measurement unit of M (meter) and degrees. For instance, the sensing distance of a typical T8 LED Tube is 6-8 meters at 140 degrees. This means that the sensor will automatically scan around its surroundings between 6 to 8 meters and if it finds that the lighting is sufficient, it will then automatically adjust accordingly.

On top of that, the degrees refer to the level of which the sensor will scan. At 140 degrees, the scanning mechanism is not as wide as those that have the capability of scanning up to 360 degrees which will be checking the entire circle of its radius. This means that the more the degrees of the sensing distance is, the more areas the sensor will be able to scan.

Sensing distance is very important for LED tubes especially when they are deployed in areas which are hard to reach and where there is a need to automatically manage the devices.
