One of the main roads in Sarawak is Jalan Tun Razak, which is located in Kuching, the state’s capital. This road is very long and cuts across almost the entire eastern part of the city. As such, Jalan Tun Razak plays a crucial role as a main road for the people around Kuching to travel between their homes, school and work each day.
Landmarks and Subroads
From the city centre, Jalan Tun Razak starts at the roundabout of Jalan Simpang Tiga and Jalan Wan Alwi. Here is where Swinburne University of Technology is located on one side while the Bangunan KWSP Kuching is on the other.
Jalan Tun Razak moves towards the east where you will reach the Jalan Chong Ted Tsuing intersection while the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kenyalang is nearby. Further to the north from here is Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 while you will reach Kolej Komunity Mas Gading. This road terminates further up north at the Jalan Datuk Merican Salleh junction.
Jalan Tun Razak is used mostly by working adults and white collar executives each day. This is because it connects several suburbs with the city center of Kuching. Besides that, a large segment of school children and parents use Jalan Tun Razak to commute between home and school as there are at least 5 schools and colleges along this road.
In the mornings, Jalan Tun Razak experiences peak to super peak traffic conditions particularly on the flow towards the city centre. This is very prominent along the school areas as cars are slowing down to drop their children off.
Meanwhile, it is peak at the roundabout and all junctions along the road while it experiences moderate traffic flow at other times. On weekends, Jalan Tun Razak’s traffic flow is peak during the afternoons and super peak occasionally as well.
