Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock

One of the main roads in Malacca city is Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. It is located right in the middle of the centre of Malacca city which makes it an extremely important access road. Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock is where you will need to go if you plan to visit the infamous Jonker Street and is used by vehicles and pedestrians throughout the day.

Demographics
Similarly with many other major roads in the heart of Malacca City, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock is used mainly by local and foreign visitors to the historical state. As such, there are always tourists seen walking around this stretch buying souvenirs and shopping, enjoying the local foods and sightseeing at the nearby attractions. Meanwhile, vehicles that travel along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock usually commutes between work and home each day while there are a lot that comes here for education as there are many schools located along this road.

Landmarks and Subroads
Located within the central part of the city, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock starts from the cross-junction of Jalan Tengkera towards the west, Jalan Ong Kim Wee towards the north and Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz towards the south. It moves towards the east and crosses the Sungai Melaka before joining up with Jalan Laksamana on the other side of the river.

Along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, there is an intersection that heads out towards Jalan Kubu where the Malacca International School is located. Apart from that, Jalan Kubu is home to the Tamil Methodist Church and the Cosmopoint International College of Technology before joining up with Jalan Munshi Abdullah towards the north.

Jalan Munshi Abdullah runs in adjacent with Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock where between them are several other smaller roads that house schools like Sekolah Menengah Pay Foong and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kubu while the Hang Tuah and Kubu stadiums are around here as well. Meanwhile, Heeren Inn is located along here as well as the Muzium Warisan Baba and Nyonya while the eastern end leads towards the very famous Hoe Kee Chicken Rice shop which is at the junction of Jonker Street and Hard Rock Café Malacca are situated.

Traffic Conditions
If you are coming in from Jalan Tengkera at the northern tip of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, the intersection here is where you will experience peak to super peak traffic conditions most of the time. The morning rush hours are super peak as vehicles are coming in to drop their children to school while working adults are coming to the city for work. The evening rush hours meanwhile, traffic conditions can be peak and super peak at times. Once you are in Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, traffic flow ranges from moderate to peak while the short stretch in front of the school can be quite congested at times. Further down south, this road will have peak conditions right before the junction heading into Lorong Hang Jebat especially around the Hard Rock Café Malacca location.
