Location and Significance Jalan Pudu is one of the main roads in Kuala Lumpur. It covers the main areas of central Kuala Lumpur which comes in from the western areas of the town area. From there, it continues downwards towards Cheras. Pudu is one of the oldest places in the Klang Valley and due to its strategic location; it has been rapidly developed in recent years to accommodate the fast growing population and new structures around here. Accessibility From the west side of Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Pudu starts as a branch out from Jalan Tun Perak where the interchange with Petaling Street is located. From there, it travels down towards the southern part of the city which will lead motorists towards Jalan Imbi and into Bukit Bintang, the shopping district here. After that, it continues downwards into central Pudu where it will run in adjacent with Jalan Loke Yew. Jalan Pudu will then move towards other suburbs via the Jalan Tun Razak interchange. It will then continue towards the south before terminating and convening with Jalan Cheras.
Jalan Pudu is used mainly as an access road for vehicles and motorists. It connects the main city centre of Kuala Lumpur where there is the former Puduraya Bus Terminal, now known as Pudu Sentral. Around here is the very popular Petaling Street or Chinatown while the pre-war Wesley Methodist Church is beside.
Tung Shin Hospital is located opposite of Pudu Sentral as you approach the interchange into Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Imbi. Here, you will see Berjaya Times Square and the former Pudu Jail which has already been demolished for development. Further down south are the old Pudu Wet Market and the Pudu Post Office, known as one of the oldest post offices in Malaysia while the Pudu English School is located near here as well.
Along Jalan Pudu, traffic conditions can range from moderate to super peak because it is an extremely important connecting road in the city of Kuala Lumpur. At the UTC Pudu Sentral vicinity, Jalan Pudu experiences super peak traffic flow because this is one of the main transportation hubs of the city. As such, it is quite normal for traffic jams to occur throughout the day here. As you move southwards, the traffic will only ease off around Tung Shin Hospital and you will notice moderate flow. The traffic condition then flows quite smoothly until the Caltex and Pudu Plaza areas in which it peaks due to the narrower road before it reaches the Jalan Pasar vicinity in which it is quite congested as well. From there, traffic flow then moderates until Jalan Pasar convenes with Jalan Cheras.
